Exclusive: £75m player would rather sign for Liverpool than Arsenal, but there's a problem

Liverpool are currently a top destination for players, having clinched the Premier League title last season in dominant fashion.

Arne Slot’s side were head and shoulders above the competition, delivering consistent performances and securing the title with an impressive 15-point lead at the top of the table.

Building on that success, the Reds have already secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and agreed a record deal for Florian Wirtz, signalling their intent to remain at the top.

Liverpool are also linked with a highly-rated Premier League winger, who is also attracting interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, but the player is understood to favour a move to Anfield.

Anthony Gordon prefers a move to Liverpool over Chelsea and Arsenal

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has revealed that Anthony Gordon prefers a move to Liverpool despite interest from Chelsea and Arsenal, who need to bolster the left side of the attack.

And while Liverpool have also been linked with Gordon, the transfer expert has claimed that a move this summer is unlikely but he could play for his boyhood club in the future.

The problem with trying to sign Gordon this summer is that Newcastle don’t think they are under pressure to sell the player.

Speaking to TBR Football about Gordon’s situation, Bailey said: “One day I think he probably will end up at Liverpool. Will it be this summer? I very much doubt it.

“But Liverpool is his preferred option. He’s on the list of the other clubs I would say. We know Chelsea and Arsenal both want that left side upgrading. It’s not a secret and it’s a player they like.

“But yeah, to get Gordon out of Newcastle, I think it’s highly highly unlikely. Do Newcastle need to do a sale? Some clubs in football think they do and that’s why we’ve seen the Tino Livermento situation where City keep pecking away there.

“They think Newcastle will have to do something. Newcastle say they don’t, but let’s see how that progresses. Again that may be where it ties in our Joelinton story would if Newcastle have got to sell someone big, do you sell Joelinton to Saudi Arabia?

What Anthony Gordon has previously said about Mo Salah

While a move this summer may not happen, Gordon remains a player appreciated by Liverpool.

The £75m rated winger is a Liverpool fan and would love a chance to play at Anfield with the likes of Mohamed Salah, a player he has previously hailed.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Gordon lavished praise at Salah, claiming that he’s the best winger he’s ever seen in the Premier League. He said, “I think he’s a machine. I think to be at the top for so long the way he has, if you look at his stats from the first season he joined Liverpool, he’s just been so consistently elite. Playing in the Prem every week as a winger, I know how it is.

“For me, he’s the best winger I’ve seen in the Prem and maybe when he retires, he will get that (recognition) from other people, but right now, maybe he doesn’t get as much as he deserves.”

Gordon will relish a chance to play alongside someone like Salah. However, it remains to be seen if he moves to Anfield anytime soon.
