Liverpool transfer round-up as Joe Gomez hints at transfer decision and Milos Kerkez medical scheduled

Liverpool have once again dominated the transfer headlines with the Reds receiving two Here We Go’s from Fabrizio Romano.

Although the transfers of Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz haven’t been officially announced yet, for a couple of weeks now, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that those moves wouldn’t end up happening.

Indeed, the transfer window is still in its infancy, and with Liverpool’s first competitive game not set to take place until their Community Shield game against Crystal Palace on 10 August, there’s still plenty of time for changes to be made.

Here, Rousing The Kop covers some of the transfer news to have emerged from Anfield on Friday, 20 June.

Liverpool’s interest in Marc Guehi is purely for the price tag Crystal Palace have put on his head

Marc Guehi’s future has been up in the air for most of the 2024-25 campaign, with Crystal Palace even turning down a £65million bid from Newcastle last summer.

Now that the Englishman has entered the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park, more clubs have started to circle and throw their hats into the ring.

One of those clubs is Liverpool, with Arne Slot’s men considering making a bid for Guehi, as The Eagles would be willing to sell him for around £45million.

One slight problem, however, is that Guehi wouldn’t want to join a club to be a back-up, and with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate being Arne Slot’s preferred options, it’s hard to see how he’d take any of their places in the first-team squad.

Liverpool are finally edging closer to confirming the transfer of Kerkez from Bournemouth after what has felt like a lifetime.

The defender is likely to come in as Slot’s first-choice left-back with one of Andy Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas making way for the Hungarian international.

Kerkez had something of a breakout season for Bournemouth last term, with Liverpool no doubt hoping that he can carry over the same form he showed for the Cherries to Anfield.

And, as per a report from David Ornstein, it seems like his medical is scheduled for next week, with the final fee for Kerkez’s move sitting somewhere around £40million.

For a defender with Kerkez’s potential, the fee that the Reds are paying seems very minimal, especially since he’s only 21 years old.

Of course, only time will tell what the future holds, but on the face of things, this seems like a very smart piece of business.

Joe Gomez has etched himself in Liverpool’s history books after being with the club for a decade.

Granted, the defender has certainly had his setbacks, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Gomez is an “exceptional” player.

The Englishman has never thrown a paddy about being benched or even being played outside of his natural position.

However, as with every player, there comes a time when they want to be playing regular football, and if a team can’t offer them that, that’s when they look for exit routes.

In Gomez’s case, however, there have been constant rumours over the past couple of years regarding his future, but now, it seems like he’s put those doubts to rest.

The Englishman put out a heartfelt post on his Instagram thanking Liverpool and their fans for everything they’ve done for him during his decade at the club.

But at the end of that post, he wrote that he’s ‘hungry for more’, which makes it feel like he’s ready to stay at Anfield and fight for his place, shutting down any rumours of a potential move.
