Timberwolves Willing to Ditch All-Stars in Blockbuster Trade for Kevin Durant

The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly open to getting rid of some major All-Star talent in a potential blockbuster trade framework for 15-time All-Star Phoenix Suns power forward Kevin Durant.

Although buzz about a Durant-to-Minnesota deal has fluctuated amid chatter he prefers the Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs, with the 2025 NBA Draft now less than a week away it appears channels of communication with other interested parties have remained open.

With three-time All-Star shooting guard Anthony Edwards, 23, emerging as one of the league's top new talents, Minnesota has made the Western Conference Finals in each of the past two seasons.

Edwards continues to develop his well-rounded game on both sides of the floor. This past year for the 49-33 Timberwolves, he averaged 27.6 points on .447/.395/.837 shooting splits, 5.7 rebounds and 4.5 dimes.

But surely he would enjoy playing alongside one of the NBA's best three-level scorers ever. Although Durant will turn 37 before his 19th pro season starts, he remains an absolutely lethal offensive threat.

Per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Minnesota would be open to ditching two of its incumbent frontcourt All-Stars to add the two-time Finals MVP.

"Minnesota has made it clear that Jaden McDaniels is not going anywhere, which means the package would have to include either [three-time All-Star center] Rudy Gobert or [three-time All-Star power forward] Julius Randle," Siegel writes. "The other assets league sources continue to speculate about regarding the Wolves' package are Donte DiVincenzo, Rob Dillingham, and the 17th pick in the draft."

DiVincenzo and Dillingham are intriguing young pieces with upside, and future draft equity would of course need to be involved in any deal.

While there was some unconfirmed chatter about Anthony Edwards potentially recruiting Durant, his idol, to Minnesota, those deceitful rumors were shot down by Marc J. Spears of ESPN's Andscape," Siegel notes. "Other rumors around the league suggest that Durant doesn't want to go to the Timberwolves and wouldn't extend his contract with them, which has led to a sense of hesitance for the team to make a trade for the All-Star."
