Bills Add Firepower in Trade Proposal with Commanders

The Buffalo Bills offense was humming last season, finishing the year one of two teams who averaged over 30 points per game. They were the first team in NFL history to have at least 30 rushing and passing touchdowns in the same season.

Most of that production was thanks to the do-it-all quarterback Josh Allen, who would end the season with his first MVP award. He was protected by one of the league's best offensive lines and was complemented by an elite run game that feature rushing touchdowns leader James Cook.

Despite this success, Buffalo could still be in search for better receiving weapons.

They're currently led by Khalil Shakir as the top target in a young group of receivers. Joshua Palmer was signed in free agency to fill out the current starting lineup with second-year pro Keon Coleman.

There is hope that Coleman and tight end Dalton Kincaid can find more production with better health and more opportunities, but there is one disgruntled wide receiver in the NFC that could be worth pursuing in a trade and be a major spark plug for the pass game.

Terry McLaurin is in the midst of a contract standoff with the Washington Commanders, the team he has spent six seasons with. McLaurin is coming off his best year yet, earning Second Team All-Pro honors after catching 13 touchdowns. He is now seeking a raise that the Commanders are moving slow facilitating on.

Writer Daniel Arwas believes a trade between Washington and Buffalo could be a win-win situation.

In this proposal, Buffalo would acquire McLaurin in exchange for a second-round and fourth-round NFL Draft pick next year.

For the Commanders, this makes sense as they could move on from their top receiver having just signed Deebo Samuel, who could easily suffice at that spot. McLaurin, who is about to turn 30, is also hitting his peak in trade value - based on performance and age.

If the organization cannot get a satisfactory contract put together for McLaurin, they could find it worthwhile to stack up assets to continue adding youth around star quarterback Jayden Daniels or create a package for another trade.

Buffalo giving up draft capital would further their win-now approach and greatly improve their chances at appearing in a Super Bowl. Having been knocking on the doorstep of an AFC championship for years, an All-Pro receiver could be the final piece to the puzzle.
