Seven-figure Leeds United transfer twist with 49ers awaiting future windfall - Report

Leeds United are due 15% of any profit that Toulouse make when they decide to sell Charlie Cresswell, with links to Cesc Fabregas’ Como strong this month.

Leeds had to make tough decision 12 months ago after missing out on promotion at the first time of asking, which led to ‘pure profit’ sales for academy graduates Archie Gray and Charlie Cresswell.

Cresswell left Leeds for £3.8million to Ligue 1 side Toulouse after frustrations over a lack of playing time under Daniel Farke, and has seen his stock rise in his first full season of top flight football over in the south of France.

Contrasting Como, Charlie Cresswell transfer reports emerge with Leeds United awaiting 15% sell-on clause benefit

Gianluca Di Marzio reported early this week that Cresswell is closing in on a move to ambitious Serie A side Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas.

The fee in question was claimed to be as high as £14.5million, while the YEP reported that the Whites would be due for 15% of any profit made by Toulouse in the sale.

That profit being around £10.7million, which would land Leeds a cool £1.6million for the 2024 sale of their academy product.

However, contrasting reports from Football Italia’s Alfredo Pedulla claim that Como are not in fact wanting to sign the England U21 centre-back this summer.

Charlie Cresswell’s stock on the rise – will Leeds United regret sale?

When you sell an academy product before they’ve had chance to be a regular, you always run the risk of another club developing them.

There are two sides to the Cresswell issue at Leeds, one side being that his talent arguably deserved better opportunities at Elland Road, but the other side is that he was never going to muscle Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk or Ethan Ampadu out of the lineup during our promotion bid.

Circumstances forced us into selling him, and unfortunately, he’s flourishing away from Leeds.

Whether or not this Como move materialises, he’s still out to prove Leeds wrong, or in his own words, prove himself right.
