Liverpool supporters may not have to wait much longer to see Florian Wirtz take to the pitch for the first time in a Reds shirt. It was confirmed on Friday that Wirtz had completed a permanent move to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen.

A £116million deal was agreed between Liverpool and Leverkusen earlier this month. The Reds will pay an initial fee of £100 million - a club-record - plus another £16m if all add-ons are met.

Wirtz will now look ahead to linking up with the Liverpool squad when they return to the AXA Training Centre on July 7 for the first day of pre-season training.

After that, the Reds will then be fully focused on preparing for their Premier League title defence, which begins at home to Bournemouth on Friday, August 15.

In between then, there is the potential for Wirtz to feature for Liverpool for the first time.

Liverpool will play their first pre-season match of the summer against Preston North End at Deepdale on Sunday, July 13. It's on this date that Wirtz could play for the Reds for the first time.

After that, Liverpool will travel to Hong Kong for a friendly against AC Milan before going to Japan to take on Yokohama F. Marinos in their final match of their tour of Asia.

Liverpool will then return to Anfield for a double-header against Athletic Bilbao. It's during these two games that Wirtz could play in front of a home crowd for the first time as a Reds player.

Thanks to winning the Premier League title last term, Wirtz's first competitive match as a Liverpool player could come on August 10 when they face Crystal Palace in the Community Shield.

"I'm not coming (to) have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve," Wirtz told the Liverpool's website.

"Of course I want to keep going at this performance. So yeah, that sure gives motivation to achieve more.

"I would like to win everything every year. First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work. In the end, we want to be successful.

"Last season they won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious."

He added: "This was also a big point for me: that I will improve my own personal level and physical levels because I think everyone knows that in Liverpool the players are machines - really strong and really physical.

"But I see this also as an opportunity for me to get better in this point. So yeah, I just thought this was the right place for me."
