Jarell Quansah is likely to be the second player to exit Liverpool this summer after an agreement was reached with Bayer Leverkusen for his transfer.
Caoimhin Kelleher was the first to depart, with the Irishman looking to get some regular first-team football under his belt after being Alisson’s number two for the past few years.
With a fair few more players likely to be on their way out, these moves spark the start of a massive summer of change for Liverpool, with Arne Slot making a statement of intent with the moves he’s made thus far.
Although it’s all well and good getting rid of players who may not have a future at the club, their departures mean that gaps will need to be filled, especially in Quansah’s case.
The Englishman was Liverpool’s fourth-choice centre-back last season and only managed to earn himself one Premier League start.
And, even though the Reds will still have Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez at their disposal, if they want to remain competitive across all competitions, at least one more centre-back will need to be welcomed.

But, with the way that teams are chosen at Liverpool, it feels like it needs to be a young talent who doesn’t mind sitting on the bench and getting the odd call-up here and there.
Here, Rousing The Kop lists three young centre-backs Liverpool could target this summer.

One player who has featured in the transfer headlines recently is Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande.
The Ivory Coast international has recently been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, but over the last 18 months, there have been plenty of links with Liverpool.
Diomande was a key cog in Ruben Amorim’s system before he made the move to Manchester United and has made his presence more than known despite only being 21 years old.
The centre-back has also been described as ‘physically strong‘, which for a Premier League player, is a must.
There is, however, a slight problem with the deal in that the defender would cost Liverpool around £50million to prise away from Sporting, which, with the amount of spending they’ve done this summer, might be a step too far.
Tomas Araujo

Another Liga Portugal defender who has been linked with an Anfield move is Benfica’s Tomas Araujo.
The Portugal international has been a regular starter for Bruno Lage’s team and has appeared a grand total of 44 times this season.
The defender is slightly older than Diomande at 23 years old, but he does offer a bit more versatility than the Sporting man, as Lage has used Araujo at right-back on numerous occasions this term.
However, Liverpool would once again have to fork out around £50million for Araujo to be in with a chance of prising him away from his boyhood club this summer.
Joel Ordonez

Perhaps the more out-there shout of the three defenders Liverpool could go for is Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez.
The centre-back was heavily linked with an Anfield switch back in January, with manager Nicky Hayen admitting that he would be tempted to sell the 21-year-old if a fee worth around £25million was presented to him.
The Ecuador international has been in fine form for the Belgian side this term as he’s made 49 appearances across all competitions.
Of course, these are all ifs, buts and maybes at the moment, but with the way things are headed, a replacement for Quansah will have to be sorted out quickly, otherwise Nat Phillips could end up making a return.
