Man United drop out of £70m transfer race, must go all-out for 20-goal star now

Manchester United are ramping up efforts to supercharge their attack with two more signings this summer.

The Red Devils have already made waves by sealing the capture of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

Manager Ruben Amorim wants a new number 10 and a marquee centre-forward ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is on United’s radar but their priority is to sign Brentford sensation Bryan Mbeumo.

According to The Athletic, Bournemouth value Semenyo at £70 million and their steep asking price has deterred further interest from Man United.

The 25-year-old only signed a fresh five-year deal with the Cherries in July 2024, giving the south coast club major leverage in negotiations.

Tottenham Hotspur also enquired about Semenyo but backed out quickly once the financial demands became clear.

Bryan Mbeumo is the best option for Man United

The Red Devils are dreaming of pairing Mbeumo with Cunha to create a devastating attacking duo at Old Trafford.

They submitted an offer worth £45 million plus a further £10m in add-ons for the 25-year-old but Brentford swiftly rejected their proposal.

The Bees are willing to part ways with their talisman but only at the right price as they begin life after long-serving head coach Thomas Frank.

Mbeumo is tailor-made for Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup, capable of operating in the right-sided number 10 slot.

United may need to increase their bid to around £60m-£65m to convince Brentford to agree to a sale.

While Semenyo has shown promise at Bournemouth, Mbeumo has already established himself as a proven Premier League performer.

Tottenham remain in the race, but Mbeumo is understood to favour a move to the Theatre of Dreams, even without Champions League football on offer.
