Arsenal are reportedly exploring a summer move for Brentford midfielder Christian Nørgaard as a possible replacement for Thomas Partey, whose future at the Emirates remains uncertain with his contract set to expire on June 30.

According toMirror Football, the Gunners have identified Nørgaard as a potential solution in midfield as negotiations over a contract extension with Partey have stalled. The Ghana international made 52 appearances in the 2024/25 campaign but is attracting interest from abroad, including from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe and La Liga side Barcelona. With no breakthrough in talks, a summer exit looks increasingly likely.

Nørgaard, 30, has been a key figure for Brentford since joining in 2019, captaining the side and playing an instrumental role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2021. Known for his leadership, defensive discipline, and tactical awareness, the Danish international is seen as an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s midfield plans heading into the 2025/26 season.

Arsenal, who have finished second in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons, are looking to refresh their midfield. The club are already close to securing the £51 million signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to replace Jorginho, who recently joined Flamengo. With Partey possibly leaving, Nørgaard is viewed as another key target to maintain the squad’s depth and competitiveness.

Brentford are expected to demand a significant fee for their captain, especially as interest grows in other players such as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa. Nørgaard’s Premier League experience and consistent performances for both club and the Danish national team make him a standout option.

Arteta, who previously voiced his appreciation for Partey’s contributions, now faces the task of reshaping Arsenal’s midfield unit. A combination of Zubimendi’s technical finesse and Nørgaard’s defensive steel could offer a balanced partnership in the heart of the pitch.

Arsenal have also been linked with midfielders such as Sevilla’s Lucien Agoumé and PSG’s Warren Zaïre-Emery, but Nørgaard’s familiarity with the Premier League may give him the edge in the Gunners’ shortlist. While no formal approach has been made to Brentford, Arsenal are expected to move quickly should Partey’s departure be confirmed.

With the new Premier League season set to kick off against Manchester United, the Gunners are keen to finalise their midfield reinforcements as soon as possible.
