Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, overtaking rivals Arsenal in the battle for the England international’s signature.
According toThe Telegraph, the Premier League champions are now in the strongest position to land the 23-year-old, following an agreement to sell young defender Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen in a £30 million deal. With Ibrahima Konaté’s contract set to expire in 12 months, Liverpool are prioritising a defensive reinforcement, and Guehi has emerged as a prime target.
Arsenal are also monitoring Guehi as part of their shortlist for potential centre-back additions this summer. The Gunners may act depending on player departures and ongoing injury concerns in their defensive ranks. Guehi’s former club Chelsea, along with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, have also expressed interest in recent windows.

However, Liverpool are now expected to make a “significant offer” for Guehi, as Palace’s negotiating power has weakened. The Eagles had rejected a £70 million bid from Spurs in January and previously turned down four offers from Newcastle last summer—the highest of which was £65 million. But with Guehi now entering the final year of his contract, Palace face the risk of losing him for free in 2026 and may be more open to a sale.

Crystal Palace are already preparing for life without Guehi, having opened talks with Sporting CP over the signing of 21-year-old centre-back Ousmane Diomande as a potential replacement.

Liverpool’s interest in Guehi comes amid a busy summer in the transfer market. The Merseyside club have completed their £116 million move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. Additionally, a £40 million deal has been agreed with Bournemouth for Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is overseeing a significant squad reshuffle as the club looks to build on their title-winning campaign, with Guehi now at the top of the list to strengthen the heart of their defence.
