The green light was finally given yesterday to announce the long-awaited move after the Premier League Blues announced that Sharman-Lowe had signed a two-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge.
Bolton had been looking to bring in a top-class keeper this summer and ran the rule over a few other options, including Crystal Palace’s Owen Goodman, but Schumacher said the 22-year-old was the unanimous choice.
“We’re getting a really talented player,” he told [The Bolton News](http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk). “He went out on loan last year with Doncaster Rovers and he was exceptional.
“We had a lot of conversations early in the window, as soon as the season had finished, in fact, about the type of goalkeeper we wanted with Owain (Fon Williams) and with Fergal (Harkin).
“We had a list of goalkeepers that we wanted to go through and try and make sure we get the right choice for that role, so we watched a lot of stuff on a number of goalkeepers, and Teddy was the outstanding candidate.”
Sharman-Lowe came through the Chelsea youth team at the same time as recent signing Xavier Simons and has also had loan spells at Burton and in non-league with Bromley and Havant and Waterlooville.
His big breakthrough came last season under Grant McCann, with 15 clean sheets in Rovers’ League Two title victory.
A number of clubs – including Doncaster – were keen to take him on again this term but Schumacher says he was struck by the enthusiasm he had for the move to Bolton.
“We spoke to him, we had a good meeting with him, and he was really keen to come here and continue his development,” he said. “He is somebody who's really talented, he's a really good shot-stopper, he's a good size, good at coming for crosses, he's excellent with his feet, both short and long, so we're really excited about working with him.”
Sharman-Lowe will travel straight from the European Under-21 Championships to link up with Bolton, and should be in place by the time they travel to Marbella for a warm weather training camp and a friendly against Orlando Pirates.
“We’re looking forward to working with him.” Schumacher said. “He’s away with England at the moment but we’ll hopefully get him in with the lads before Spain.”
