Aston Villa have hinted at possible exit of Emi Martinez as Man United step up interest in the World Cup-winning keeper.
Aston Villa may have just confirmed about Emi Martinez’s exit this summer. The Argentine goalkeeper seemed to wave goodbye at the conclusion of last season. As per fresh reports, Manchester United are leading the race for his signature.
Reports coming from Argentina claim that the keeper is keen on the move. And the Red Devils have already spoken to his agent about a potential move to Old Trafford. While other clubs are considering a move, Utd are the only club to have made steps to make formal talks. Villa are reportedly looking for around £34m for the 31-year-old. That cash could be used to bring in a new face between the sticks.
Villa Line Up Chevalier as United Plot Summer Changes
The Villlans aren’t wasting time lining up a replacement, with Lille’s Lucas Chevalier emerging as their top target. The 23-year-old has impressed in the UCL and has attracted plenty of interest, including from Man Utd earlier this year.
However, Lille want £40m for their young shot-stopper. Meanwhile, Man Utd are looking at multiple transfer targets, with Emi Martinez being just one piece of their summer rebuild. They’re also planning deals for striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sporting Lisbon forward is being tracked by both Arsenal and United this summer. The Swede is reported to be planning on going on strike to force a Sporting exit. He is angry as he believes the club have backed out of a deal that he would be sold for £50m with a further £8m in add-ons. Winger Bryan Mbeumo is also on radar but will need to sell players first.
With big changes coming, a move for Martinez could be the first of many major calls at Old Trafford.
