Jadon Sancho gives Napoli boost in transfer pursuit, he could form reunion with Scott McTominay

Jadon Sancho is seeking a new club because he doesn’t see a future at Manchester United.

After leaving Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United in 2021 for £73 million, Jadon Sancho has proven to be a flop at Old Trafford.

The England international will go down as one of the worst signings in recent memory and his decline was perfectly summed up when Chelsea passed on the opportunity to sign him for £25m after spending the season on loan at Stamford Bridge. The Blues opted to pay a £5m penalty fee instead of keeping Sancho.

That means Sancho will return to United this summer, but he will be on the move again so long as the right offer is made for his signature.

Now, it’s up to Sancho’s representative, Emeka Obasi, to find his client a new club before the 2025/26 season begins. Reports suggest Ruben Amorim is not interested in taking Sancho on the pre-season tour, which would mean that the writing is on the wall for the winger to leave Old Trafford.

Sancho could return to the Bundesliga, where he has previously spent two spells at Borussia Dortmund, or he could move to Italy for the first time in his career, like other United players have done in the past.

Jadon Sancho prioritising Napoli transfer

One league that appears to be attracting suitors for Sancho is Serie A.

The Italian league has been a good home to former United players like Chris Smalling and Scott McTominay. It may appeal to Sancho, allowing him to experience something new for the next chapter of his playing career.

There are two clubs believed to be chasing Sancho in Italy. They include Juventus and current champions Napoli.

While Juventus have approached Sancho’s representatives over a deal, it is understood that the 25-year-old has another Italian club at the top of his mind.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli have been working on a proposal to sign Sancho for days, and a move to the club is at the top of Sancho’s priorities.

This is a huge boost for Napoli, but also a blow for Juventus at the same time.

United will be happy if it means they can move one of their sellable assets on before the start of the new season, especially a player who is not part of Amorim’s plans for the future.

Sancho could form a reunion with Scott McTominay

Perhaps the biggest incentive to join Napoli is the possibility of teaming up with McTominay.

The Scotland international took Naples by storm last season, winning the Serie A title and being voted Most Valuable Player.

Sancho may want a slice of that cake, but it would be interesting to see how the winger would work under Antonio Conte. The no-nonsense Italian is not afraid to fall out with star players he doesn’t feel are carrying their weight.

Conte has become a true admirer of McTominay after watching him inspire their side to title success in his debut season.

One of United’s priorities will be ensuring Sancho leaves the club this summer.
