Moises Caicedo was disappointed with our second-half performance in our 3-1 defeat to Flamengo, but says we must use the result as fuel for our final group stage match of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite the Blues taking the lead early on through Pedro Neto, we struggled to control the game after the break, and Flamengo took full advantage.
The Brazilian side struck twice in quick succession – the 62nd and 65th minute – and eventually notched a third after we had been reduced to ten men following a red card shown to Nicolas Jackson.
Our Ecuadorian midfielder was frustrated that we didn’t make it two wins from two games at the tournament, and believes it will be important to react positively to the setback.
‘You need to be focused for the full game because one second you switch off, then that’s what can happen,’ Moises explained after the game at the Lincoln Financial Field.
‘We need to react. We are now focused on the next game. It will be a tough game, but we will prepare from tomorrow.’
Adding his thoughts on our performance, Caicedo felt that our opponents were the better side after the interval, which made it tough for the Blues to defend our lead.
He said: ‘In the second half, they were better, they pressed better and we found some space, but for sure it was complicated
'The team was playing well, but you need to be focused for 95 minutes. Otherwise, in one second, you can lose the game. That is what happened.
‘It was a difficult game, but we are focused on the next game and we need to win the next game [to make sure we go through]. But today was tough.’
