Chelsea man's emotional post after Club World Cup defeat to Flamengo goes viral

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson released an emotional statement after being sent off during Chelsea's shock 3-1 defeat to Flamengo in their second group game at the FIFA Club World Cup. The Senegalese frontman lasted just four minutes on the pitch after replacing Liam Delap, as he was shown his marching orders for a silly, studs-up challenge on Ayrton Lucas.

While teammate Marc Cucurella revealed that the 23-year-old had already apologised to his teammates following the game, Jackson quickly took to social media in the aftermath to speak about his dismissal and send a heartfelt message to the fans that he had 'let down.'

Taking to Instagram after the game, Jackson stated that he was 'so angry at himself' while apologising to supporters for the needless red card.

"I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card.. and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation.

"I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. No excuses. I take full responsibility. I’ll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry."

It is not the first time in recent months that Jackson has found himself being sent for an early shower, as he was also sent off for elbowing Sven Botman in the 2-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle back in May. Both sides were battling it out for a place in the Champions League, and the striker would subsequently miss the final two games of the domestic season as a result.

Now, Jackson will miss the final group game of the Club World Cup against Tunisian outfit ES Tunis. This will hand new signing Liam Delap the perfect opportunity to stake his claim as the first-choice number nine, having already impressed fans in his first couple of outings.
