Man United are looking to add more goals in attack this summer as they aim to improve under Ruben Amorim.
However, both Gyokeres and Ekitike are expected to cost a significant amount, with price tags of over £60 million, which may be a challenge for United to afford, especially considering they’ve already spent £62.5m on Cunha. So they may have to look at cheaper options.
Man United should sign Callum Wilson
If the Red Devils fail to land one of their primary striker targets, they will go into the season still in need of more goal-scoring ability at the top of the pitch. Both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund combined for just seven Premier League goals last season, so Amorim will need more help.
Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is due to become a free agent at the end of the season, as his contract at St James’ Park expires on June 30. So, Wilson now has the decision of where to go next.
The 33-year-old was dealing with injury problems last season, but in his prior years at Newcastle, he proved himself to be a competent and beneficial striker option behind Alexander Isak.
Wilson has been at Newcastle since September 2020 and has since made 130 appearances, scoring 49 goals. Furthermore, he has previous Premier League experience with Bournemouth, for whom he scored 67 goals in 187 games. In his career, he has netted a total of 141 goals.
Man United should bring in the attacker in order to help the likes of Zirkzee and Hojlund, if they fail to land a Gyokeres or Ekitike. Wilson may be particularly helpful to Hojlund, who at the age of 22, could do with a mentor to help him improve, after a season where he scored just 10 goals in 52 games.
Rasmus Hojlund hints at Old Trafford stay
The Danish international’s future is very much uncertain at the moment, with United looking to sign a new striker to take over from him. Serie A side Inter Milan are reportedly keen on taking him back to Italy, but they are yet to make a concrete move for him.
“I’m looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I’m fully dedicated to the project that’s underway.”
Pressed further on the arrival of Cuhna and possible love for Mbuemo threatening his future at Man Utd he replied: "As I’ve told you before, I try to stay away from all that," he added. "Because it’s both for better and for worse these days."
