Report: Everton growing in 'confidence' over big deal on for David Moyes, as well as Branthwaite

Contract issues have been the story of Everton’s summer so far, with the club yet to really dive into the transfer market.

David Moyes has seen one player added to his squad so far this summer with the addition of Carlos Alcaraz.

Having spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign at Everton, the Argentine does not really count as a new face.

The Blues are aiming to keep their top players around, with Everton in talks over a new deal for Jarrad Branthwaite.

A lot needs to be done in a short space of time on Merseyside as the Friedkins look to hand Moyes a squad capable of competing.

It may have been a slow start to the summer, but there is confidence growing at Finch Farm that a new deal could be signed shortly.

Everton in contract talks with Idrissa Gana Gueye

Everton are set to lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the end of the month as his contract comes to an end.

In contrast, Everton are in talks with Idrissa Gana Gueye to extend his stay on Merseyside, with a one-year deal on the table.

According to The Athletic, there is still ‘confidence’ that the Senegal international will ink a new deal despite just days remaining on his current contract.

Gueye wants a multi-year deal from Everton, which the Toffees are not keen to hand out given his age.

Considering the number of players which Everton need to bring in this summer, landing Gueye on a new deal feels like a home run for the Friedkins.

Seamus Coleman is expected to remain at Everton, but Moyes will be desperate to see his starting midfielder also put pen to paper on a new deal.

Everton face huge task if they need to replace Gueye

Heading into the summer, Everton knew they needed four key additions this summer given the number of players leaving.

If Gueye is to depart Merseyside, then that task becomes even bigger for the Everton recruitment department.

A lot is resting on this summer’s window as the club head into their new stadium this season.

And losing a player of Gueye’s quality and experience would be a real step in the wrong direction.

One of the parties is going to have to concede and compromise, and it does not feel as if Everton can afford to lose this battle with Gueye.
