England international Kyle Walker has heaped praise on Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly, saying that he has a “good football brain”.
Arsenal have a plethora of young talent, with the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri really breaking out in Mikel Arteta’s squad last season. Lewis-Skelly managed to also earn himself a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad to play with Walker.

The Gunners’ defender recently signed a new contract with the team, despite the fact that there had been reported interest from Real Madrid if his current deal expired (due in June 2026). However, he has comitted his future to Arsenal, and Walker has been full of praise for the 18-year-old.
Walker said on TheKyleWalkerPodcast: “This is a seventeen, eighteen year old that’s just broke onto the scene at arsenal, and all of a sudden he’s taking the international stage in his stride, which is, you know, would I have done that at his age, maybe not.”
Walker then compared Lewis-Skelly to former Tottenham and England left-back Danny Rose, who the Man City right back played with during their time at White Hart Lane.
“He reminds me of Danny Rose how he plays he uses his body.” He added, “Well, and he’s got a good left foot and a good football brain.”
Lewis-Skelly made 42 appearances for Arsenal last season, scoring one goal (against Manchester City), and providing three assists for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Lewis-Skelly chooses Arsenal over Real Madrid
There was genuine concern about Lewis-Skelly potentially rejecting a new contract at Arsenal in favour of joining La Liga giants Real Madrid, much like Trent Alexander-Arnold did at Liverpool. He has an estimated market value of around £38m, so losing him for free would have been a big blow for the Gunners.
However, having signed a new long-term deal with the Gunners, Lewis-Skelly has committed to the Emirates, and the project that Arteta is working towards.
He has been compared to Ashley Cole in the past, and Arsenal fans will hope, much like Cole, that Lewis-Skelly can help lead them to a Premier League title next season.
