Report: Man Utd 'calling every day' to sign star who is 'best in the world' in his position

Manchester United are in constant contact with Aston Villa star Emi Martinez about getting a summer transfer over the line, according to Football Insider.

The Red Devils are expecting to be busy in the transfer window during the close season as Ruben Amorim looks to build the squad in his own image following a disappointing season where they finished 15th in the Premier League, and were left without European football after defeat in the Europa League final.

One position that is reportedly being targeted is the goalkeeper, and World Cup winner Martinez has now emerged as a prime target with club chiefs working overtime to get a deal done.

Martinez, who has been described as 'the best goalkeeper in the world' and currently earns £150,000-a-week at Villa Park, is expected to leave the Midlands club after they also failed to reach the Champions League for the 2025/26 season.

The club's financial situation means they must sell players to ensure compliance with FFP and PSR rules, and Martinez is a prime candidate for sale, with Man Utd making him their top target.

But United can't make their move until they have sold current number one Andre Onana, but club chiefs are 'calling Martinez every day' to convince him about a move to Old Trafford in the coming weeks.

Fabrizio Romano exclusively revealed to GIVEMESPORT this week that Martinez has already said yes to a move to become part of Amorim's squad, but it's clear that Man Utd are taking nothing for granted after missing out on a deal for Liam Delap earlier in the summer.

Club chiefs were also said to be calling regularly to stay in the race for striker Viktor Gyokeres, but the Swede has since decided that his priority would be a move to Arsenal which has thrown United's plans into disarray.

Martinez now looks very much like a deal that could happen, and Man Utd are doing all they can to ensure they get it done.
