Report: Arsenal could now suddenly make move to sign £2.8m midfielder from rival PL club to replace Thomas Partey

Arsenal could be about to lose Thomas Partey on a free transfer.

The Ghana international has been a Gunner since the summer of 2020, and he has produced several incredible performances in the famous red and white.

Partey was fantastic last season as well, but the 32-year-old’s time at the Emirates Stadium could be about to come to an end in the coming days.

That is because talks over a new contract between Arsenal and Partey have stalled, and there is a big chance that he could leave the club this summer.

No agreement so far and now concrete chances to part ways in the upcoming days.

Arsenal could sign Christian Norgaard to replace Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey is an integral part of Arsenal’s squad, but things are about to change — irrespective of what he decides to do with his future.

That is because Martin Zubimendi is in London to complete his move to Arsenal, and he is expected to start in Partey’s position next season.

The Ghanaian, even if he stays, will be given the role that Jorginho had last term, but the Gunners will need a replacement if he ends up leaving.

The Mirror have now claimed that Arsenal could make a move to sign Christian Norgaard, who is the captain of fellow Premier League side Brentford.

The Danish midfielder joined the Bees for just £2.8 million in the summer of 2019 (Sky Sports), and he has been an integral part of their squad over the years.

The report claims that Brentford would demand a ‘sizeable fee’ for Norgaard, but the fact that he is 31 and a big move this summer would be the last of his career means he could be available in a ‘cut-price’ deal.

Norgaard signed a new contract at Brentford in March this year, and that does not expire for another two years.

What new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank once said about Christian Norgaard

Norgaard was one of Thomas Frank’s key men when he was at the helm of Brentford.

The 51-year-old, who accepted the Tottenham job this month, even made the midfielder his captain at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Reports have claimed that Frank has spoken about signing Norgaard for Tottenham, but it looks like Arsenal are now interested in him as well.

But, Frank’s relationship with him could give Spurs an edge, especially as their new boss felt that Nordgaard was the ‘glue’ in his old side.

Frank said about Norgaard in December 2022, as per the BBC: “He’s a key player for us.

“Every team has one or two players that is the glue, makes the team tick, or better just by stepping on the pitch. Norgaard is one of the players who does that for us.

“The amount of interceptions, second balls he wins, his ability to keep the ball and play the pass forward is key.”
