Player who Leeds United are in talks to sign once won a staggering eight individual awards in a single season

Leeds United could be about to add a serial award-winner to their ranks, in what could be a very exciting summer addition for Daniel Farke.

Finally, after going the whole of the January transfer window without a signing and then the first two weeks of the summer window without one either, we have a new signing at Elland Road.

Leeds United have signed Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer after his release from German outfit Wolfsburg, and the striker will officially link up with his new Leeds teammates on July 1st.

And it looks like he’ll be joined by Jaka Bijol. Reports suggest that Leeds United are close to announcing the signing of Bijol from Udinese in what is Farke’s first marquee signing of the summer, paying £19million for the Slovenian centre-back.

Rumours are heating up over who might be the next to make the move to West Yorkshire. And one name in Nikola Krstovic appears to be popping up more and more.

The latest on Nikola Krstovic to Leeds United

Krstovic, 25, is hot property after a prolific season with Lecce in Serie A. The Montenegro international scored 11 in 37 league games for the club and it’s now being reported that Leeds United could sign Krstovic in a £25million deal this summer.

More recent reports say that Leeds United are in advanced talks to sign Krstovic this summer. But Lecce have since upped the asking price, with £30million now the price tag on Krstovic’s head.

And there’s now fresh doubt over a potential move as well. It comes after reports in Italy claimed that Krstovic would rather stay in Italy this summer and join a bigger Serie A club, instead of moving to the Premier League with new boys Leeds United. Nonetheless, Leeds appear to be keen on signing the forward.

Nikola Krstovic’s blistering 2022/23 season set him on the road to stardom

It’s been a fairly long journey to Serie A forward for Krstovic. He started out in his native Montenegro with Zeta where he proved prolific, then getting his chance in Serbia with Red Star Belgrade but failing to impress.

A move to Slovakia with DAC 1904 proved to be the move, though. In two seasons he made 66 total appearances and scored 37 goals, with his final 2022/23 campaign at the club setting him up for his big chance with Lecce in Italy.

That season alone, Krstovic won an incredible eight individual awards: he was named the Slovak Super Liga Player of the Month four times, won the Goal of the Month award twice, was named in the league’s Team of the Season and won the Golden Boot too.

He’s since taken that prolific form into Italy and now he looks poised to embark on another exciting chapter in his career. Though whether that’s in England with Leeds United, or in Italy with a club higher up the Serie A table, remains to be seen.
