Liverpool could shell out as much as £252million to get their hands on Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Reds have been linked with the Sweden international after he bagged 23 Premier League goals last season.
Isak still has another three years on his contract at St James’ Park but is attracting interest from Liverpool after taking the Premier League by storm since joining the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022. The striker is one of the deadliest finishers in world football and has found the back of the net 62 times in 109 appearances for Newcastle. At the age of 25, he may still have his best years ahead of him, with Liverpool said to be preparing a big-money offer for the ace.
Liverpool completed the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday and will reportedly hand the winger a minimum of £195,000 per week after he signed a five-year contract.
Isak would surely want his wages and contract length to at least mirror Wirtz’s deal at Anfield if he does agree a move to the north west. So the former La Liga player may demand £200,000 a week from Liverpool chiefs.
That means the Reds could be forced to hand Isak £52m in wages over a five-year period if they could convince Newcastle to sell him for £200m. And that would represent a total spend of more than a quarter of a billion pounds.
Isak was asked about his links to Liverpool in March after netting the winner against the Reds in the Carabao Cup final.
And he explained: “I don't know much, to be honest. From within the club and from our side there are absolutely no discussions. It's just full focus on playing for me. There's not much to say, really. I've commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times.
“It's been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I'm not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle.
“There is no reason for me to think about anything else. I feel incredibly comfortable at Newcastle. The only focus I have is on playing.”
