Man United are exploring the possibility of selling Mason Mount this summer.
The English midfielder had a lot of injury problems last season, and has done so since he joined United for £58 million Chelsea. Mount made just 26 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals. He could be on the move this summer.
Mason Mount on Aston Villa’s shortlist
Following Marcus Rashford’s return after his loan deal at Aston Villa, it leaves the Midlands-based side in need of more attacking prowess to replace Rashford, who isn’t expected to sign for Villa permanently, despite his successful loan spell at the club.
Instead, it has been reported that Villa would like to sign Mount, as they believe that they can bring him back to his best form that he showed during his time playing for Chelsea before he moved to Old Trafford.
According to former Man United and Villa scout Mick Brown, Mount is on Villa’s shortlist. He told Football Insider: “United have tried to establish whether there is a market for Mason Mount.
“Aston Villa have been spoken about and I think they could make a move. People remember Mason Mount at his best, that what Villa want to help him get back to and it looks like he’s back to full fitness now. His move to Man United hasn’t been positive by any means, but he’s still a talented player.
“Villa want to strengthen because they’ve lost Rashford and Asensio, so Mount is on their list. Unai Emery is a fan of his and feels he could help him to rediscover his Chelsea form. It would be an excellent move for Mount as well, because Villa are a top club, they’ve got top facilities and they’ll be playing in Europe.“
Mount’s estimated market value is around £24m, but it isn’t clear as to how much the Red Devils are willing to sell the midfielder for during the summer transfer window. He remains under contract at United until June 2028.
What has Mason Mount said about his future at Man United?
The midfielder has struggled a lot with injury problems during his time at Man United, in two seasons with the club, the 26-year-old has made just 46 appearances, with a lot of them from the bench too.
He has scored just four goals and one assist in those games, and has struggled to show consistent form when he gets his chances in the starting XI. The former Chelsea player said to United’s official website towards the end of the season: “I’m the first one to say I need consistent game time.
“From now until the end of the season, I want to be available for every single game. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had the injuries, the setbacks, but I always stay positive...and I carried on going.”
