It is no secret that Manchester United are currently going through one of the worst spells in their recent history.

The Red Devils finished the 2024/25 Premier League season in 15th place, their worse since the Premier League started in 1992.

Only managing 44 goals in last season’s campaign, Ruben Amorim has focused his transfer business around Manchester United’s forward line.

One summer signing has already been confirmed, Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha signed from Wolves for £62.5 million earlier in the window.

Manchester United completed this deal quite early on and United fans across the world hoped this would be a positive sign and United’s hierarchy would be able to complete numerous deals.

However, this has not been the case.

Since the confirmation of Matheus Cunha, Manchester United are still yet to make another signing.

There has been several rumours regarding United signing a new number 9 to lead the line at Old Trafford, this is due to interest being shown in Rasmus Hojlund.

Names that have been mentioned include Nigerian sharpshooter, Victor Osimhen, a young up and coming French star, Hugo Ekitike and Sporting CP’s Swedish goalscorer, Victor Gyokeres.

After Victor Gyokeres reportedly turned down a chance to join his former boss Ruben Amorim, attentions turned to Osimhen and Ekitike, yet there is still no mention of a deal being done.

United have also looked into improving defensively, especially in the goalkeeping department.

Strong speculation has developed in recent weeks surrounding World Cup winner Emi Martinez joining United to replace struggling goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Manchester United have also shown interest in Sporting CP centre-back, Ousmane Diomande.

The Ivorian centre back has been on United’s radar for some time now and Ruben Amorim would have been hoping to negotiate a deal with his former centre back.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Ousmane Diomande has been in talks with Crystal Palace for some time now and the FA Cup winners are confident in securing a deal.

Fabrizio Romano reports personal terms have been agreed and it is now down to the clubs to finalise the finer details –

“There is a negotiation already underway, going very well, between Diomande and Crystal Palace. The agreement with the player is done, and now they are working club to club to get it done also with Sporting. So, Ousmane Diomande could be the next signing for Crystal Palace.”

Ruben Amorim will be increasingly frustrated with missing out on his top transfer targets. Unable to build his desired squad, this could hinder Amorim’s tactical approach and pressure might begin to build on the Manchester United manager ahead of his first full season in charge.
