Arsenal are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Sevilla’s talented defensive midfielder Lucien Agoume this summer, as they prepare for life after Thomas Partey.

With Partey’s contract nearing its end and negotiations stalled, the Gunners are eyeing the 23-year-old Frenchman as a potential replacement to bolster their midfield for the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Agoume, who joined Sevilla permanently from Inter Milan for €4 million last summer after a successful loan spell, has caught the attention of Arsenal’s scouting team with his composure, tactical discipline, and ability to dictate play from deep.

The Gunners see Martin Zubimendi as Thomas Partey’s replacement, but Mikel Arteta still wants to sign another midfielder to come in for Jorginho ahead of next season.

His performances in La Liga, where he featured in all but three of Sevilla’s matches last season, showcase his reliability and versatility. Standing at 6ft 2in, Agoume’s physicality and ball-winning ability draw comparisons to a young N’Golo Kanté, making him a strong fit for Mikel Arteta’s possession-based system.

Sources suggest Arsenal could secure Agoume for around £17-20 million, a bargain given Sevilla’s financial difficulties and a 50% sell-on clause owed to Inter Milan.

The Gunners hold an advantage in negotiations, as Agoume’s representatives at ND Sports Management also manage Arsenal’s William Saliba, fostering a strong relationship. However, competition from Manchester United, Tottenham, and Barcelona could complicate the deal, with Agoume reportedly favoring a Premier League move.

While Martin Zubimendi’s imminent arrival from Real Sociedad addresses part of Arsenal’s midfield needs, Agoume’s signing would provide depth and long-term planning, especially with Jorginho’s departure to Flamengo. His ability to play as a No. 6 or No. 8, combined with his homegrown status under UEFA rules due to his time at Inter, adds further appeal.

For Arsenal fans, Agoume represents a low-risk, high-reward option. His youth, experience across top leagues, and alignment with Arteta’s vision could make him a key piece in Arsenal’s quest to challenge for the Premier League title.
