Manchester United are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window

Manchester United are set for a major overhaul this summer as Ruben Amorim gets his first real chance to put his stamp on the first-team squad. The former Sporting CP boss was in charge during the January transfer window but the winter trading period is a notoriously difficult time to complete major business. Patrick Dorgu joined from Serie A side Lecce while Ayden Heaven completed a move from Arsenal.

So far this summer, Matheus Cunha has joined the club after his £62.5m release clause was activated by United. The Red Devils have a more limited budget this summer due to missing out on European football. Amorim only has around £100m to spend.

Rio Ferdinand ‘knows’ Bryan Mbeumo wants Man Utd move

Another player strongly linked to Old Trafford is Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. Manchester World reported they remain relaxed over a move for Mbeumo as they prepare to make another offer while continuing discussions with the Bees. Their first offer of £45m plus £10m in add-ons was rejected.

Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, the ex-United centre-back claimed the player wants to come to Old Trafford. The Cameroon international scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League last season.

Ferdinand said: “If they get Mbeumo, I’d be very happy.” Asked why he’d be happy with the deal, he said: “He wants to come. Mbeumo wants to come, I know it. His stats over the last three seasons in the Premier League are up there, by the way. Goals and assists, goal chances, ridiculous! Again, another proven Premier League player. This is what I like, playing in the Premier League. There ain’t no adjustment business.”

Who else is interested in Bryan Mbuemo?

United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal had expressed an interest in Mbeumo, along with Newcastle United. However, despite both clubs offering Mbeumo Champions League football, he prefers a move to Old Trafford.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in the player since Thomas Frank’s appointment at the North London club. Frank was Mbeumo’s manager for six years but a reunion, as things stand, appears unlikely.

Addressing the pressure it takes to play for United, Ferdinand said: “The only thing is that there will be an adjustment because of the size of the club. They don’t have to do that when they go to Arsenal! There ain’t that pressure, the badge ain’t as heavy! It’s heavy, but it’s not as heavy!”

United’s first pre-season friendly is less than a month away now as they face historic rivals Leeds United on July 19. The Red Devils will hope to have a deal over the line for Mbeumo by then - or move onto other targets if a move does not go through.
