It's already less than a month until Newcastle United are back in action, with the first friendly date of the summer quickly approaching.

The players will return for pre-season training in early July, with the first few days taken up by intesive fitness assessments. United then head up to Glasgow to face Scottish champions Celtic on July 19.

Head coach Eddie Howe will be hoping there are some new faces in his squad for the Celtic Park clash, but will also expect to have all his current players available to him. United ended the 2024-25 campaign with some injury concerns, although none were thought to be long-term. Here's the latest Newcastle injury situation.

Joelinton

Newcastle missed the Brazilian midfielder in the final weeks of the season, with a knee problem ending his campaign early. Joelinton did not undergo surgery, but was instead advised to rest his knee, with Howe at one stage suggesting he could even play again last term.

However, that proved not to be the case, but the No 7 is on course to feature in pre-season and is expected to be part of the squad which heads to Celtic for the first friendly date on July 19.

The United youngster had to withdraw from England Under-19 duty after he picked up a groin injury meaning he was ruled out of the U19 European Championships. He had to recover from a back injury last season and then a toe problem, but will be keen to remind Howe what he is capable of in pre-season.

Alexander Isak

Newcastle's talisman missed the penultimate game of the season at Arsenal with a groin problem, but was fit to start against Everton on the final day. However, he pulled out of the Sweden squad for the June internationals.

This was thought to be just a precaution to allow the issue time to heal, and he is expected to be fully fit for pre-season.

Lewis Hall

The left-back was enjoying a stellar campaign before picking up a foot injury in February to end his season prematurely. He missed the Cabarao Cup win and England call-ups, but is on track with his recovery.

The 20-year-old is running again and will step up his recovery when the players return, with the intention of being involved in the pre-season games.

Sven Botman

The Dutch defender had another difficult season with injury after returning to the squad in January following nine months out after ACL surgery.

A different knee injury meant a minor operation in the spring, with Botman also complaining of problems in the win over Chelsea.

He was able to start the final three games, although only completed 90 minutes twice all season. It is hoped a period of rest will allow the issues to die down.

Kieran Trippier

The experienced defender missed the final games of the season with a calf problem but was able to come off the bench against Everton on the final day of the season. The 34-year-old is expected to be back in traning when pre-season begins at the start of July.

Matt Targett

The left-back only made five appearances all season, staring twice in the FA Cup, and missed the latter stages through injury.

He could be one of the players to leave this summer, but much will depend on whether he is able to get back on the training pitch next month.
