A new rumor suggests the New York Knicks could look at options in college to be their next head coach. Additionally, they are far from done in their pursuit of landing Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd.
The assumption was that when the Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau after five productive seasons, they already had their next head coach lined up. Well, in theory, it seems they might have. But the teams they currently work for weren’t in on the plan. Since their head coach spot opened up, the team has tried to poach coaches from five NBA teams. And have been rebuffed at every turn.
This week, the organization conducted interviews with veteran NBA coaches Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins. But with the search wide open, it seems they may cast their net wider than some expected. “Sources familiar with the situation tell ClutchPoints the Knicks are also still looking into, and organizing thoughts on, candidates who coach at the collegiate level,” the outlet reports.
However, it seems they have not given up just yet on getting the man that seems to be at the top of their wishlist: Jason Kidd.

From the start of the team’s head coach search, it seemed like Mavs coach Jason Kidd had been the top choice to replace Thibodeau. However, Dallas declined New York’s request to speak with him. Yet, the team is still not taking no for an answer just yet.
“Until Kidd and the Mavericks either reach an agreement on an extension and raise or agree to leave their contract as-is, the proverbial door technically remains open. Sources tell ClutchPoints the Knicks will pursue Kidd until that door is firmly shut,” they revealed.
Both the Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls either gave extensions to their current head coach, Ime Udoka and Billy Donovan, or are expected to after the Knicks’ requested to speak with them this month.
