Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has told new [Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/6/20/24452684/my-goal-is-to-win-a-lot-joan-garcia-speaks-for-the-first-time-as-barcelonas-new-goalkeeper) that he can expect a call-up to the national team in the future.
Garcia has swapped Espanyol from Barcelona this summer and is expected to be Hansi Flick’s first choice next season at Camp Nou.
De la Fuente has been full of praise for Garcia but has also warned the 24-year-old he is facing plenty of competition for a place in the Spain squad.
> “He’s a great goalkeeper. I brought him to the U21 team. He’ll definitely come. We’ll see what his situation is when the season starts,” he told Marca.
>
> “But be careful, the best goalkeepers in the world are Spanish, and they’re on the national team.
>
> “I’ll say it very clearly: they’re the best, and we’re very happy with them. And Joan will of course come to the national team when we see fit.”
Spain’s next fixtures are in September when La Roja take on Bulgaria and Turkiye in World Cup 2026 qualifying
