Report: Wolves could sign the next Gareth Bale in swoop for £21m winger who is ‘determined’ to…

Wolves will either sink or swim without talisman Matheus Cunha in the team next season, and Vitor Pereira is determined to ensure the former doesn’t happen.

Cunha completed his transfer to Manchester United at the start of June, marking the end of an incredible two-and-a-half years at Molineux.

The 26-year-old was so influential throughout his time at the club, as Wolves fans enjoyed watching him produce countless special performances.

Last season, the Brazilian had a career-best campaign to date after amassing 23 goal involvements in all competitions.

Now that he’s left for Old Trafford, Pereira will find it difficult to not just replace his goals but the magic he conjured up, which is why he’s looking to sign attacking players.

Wolves have joined Aston Villa in race to sign Jesus Rodriguez

On Friday, Wolves officially announced the signing of Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo. The 21-year-old arrived for a fee in the region of £19.5 million and sealed a five-year contract.

Jorgen Strand Larsen influenced the transfer of Lopez, who has been captured to play in the right-sided number 10 position.

But Pereira now needs to sign someone to challenge on the opposite side where Cunha played, and according to Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Wolves have joined Aston Villa and Como in the race to sign Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

The Old Gold have recently ‘contacted’ Betis to explore the 19-year-old’s situation, with the report claiming that a fixed fee of around €25 million (£21 million) could secure his signature, including the possibility of a transfer bonus.

That is despite it being claimed elsewhere that Rodriguez has a release clause of around £42 million, which – if triggered – would make him the third most expensive signing in Wolves’ history.

With the electric winger ‘determined’ to leave Betis, as per the report, it seems likely he will be moving on this summer, it’s just a question of whether that destination will be Wolverhampton.

Rodriguez has shown similarities to Gareth Bale

Wolves have signed some of the fastest players in the Premier League. Take Adama Traore as an example, his blistering pace and outrageous strength made him almost impossible to stop at full speed.

Pedro Neto is another who lit up Molineux with his speed on the counter-attack, and Rodriguez would be the latest addition to a club known for homing pacey wingers.

With his six-foot frame, Rodriguez is an explosive and powerful sprinter who can generate a top speed that most wide players could only dream of.

That is recognised in a scouting report written by Breaking The Lines, who have compared his running style to Gareth Bale.

The former Real Madrid superstar was also tall for a winger while being known for burning opposition defenders with his pace.

Rodriguez, who appeared 21 times in La Liga last term and scored twice, could be perfect for Pereira’s system with his speed making him impossible to stop on the counter.
