Leeds United will know they will have to spend plenty of money this summer if they are to have a chance of surviving in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s side are close to confirming a move for Jaka Bijol, with the Slovenian having now passed a medical ahead of his imminent move to West Yorkshire.

The Udinese man should strengthen the heart of the defence at Elland Road, but several other additions will be needed to bring the squad up to a competitive Premier League standard.

This summer could be all about taking opportunities in the market for Leeds, as they will require swift and sensible decision-making when it comes to their targets.

Tottenham hand Leeds the chance to sign Kyle Walker-Peters

Kyle Walker-Peters has been on Leeds’ radar for some time now, and Tottenham may have just handed them the perfect opportunity to push towards a deal.

Spurs need to add more locally-trained players to their squad for their upcoming Champions League campaign, which has prompted them to consider a move to bring Walker-Peters back to his boyhood club, according to Football London (20 June).

However, the North London outfit will first prioritise additions in other areas of their squad, which could allow others to steal a march on them where the right-back is concerned.

Multiple Premier League sides are understood to want the 28-year-old free agent, and given their previous interest, it would be a huge surprise if Leeds do not attempt to bring him in.

Tottenham may have slipped up by putting their pursuit of the former Southampton man on the back-burner, as it has left the door open for the Whites to swoop in and secure a deal.

Walker-Peters would be a great addition for Leeds

Leeds are lacking depth in their full-back areas at present, and that problem has been exacerbated by the fact that Junior Firpo seems destined to depart.

That leaves just Jayden Bogle, Sam Byram and Isaac Schmidt to cover the two full-back positions, but with Byram now 32 and Schmidt having failed to start a single league game last year, that will not suffice for Farke.

A deal to bring Walker-Peters to Elland Road would see them land a vastly experienced defender at Premier League level, who can operate on either flank.

He would be a strong addition to Leeds’ ranks if they could capture him, but they will have to move quickly if they are to get a deal done.
