There has been an explosion of noising linked Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak with a move to Liverpool.
In the last 48 hours or so, social media has been rife with rumours claiming the Swede could be on his way to Premier League champions Liverpool in the coming months. But the reality is far different.
Copy and paste. Newcastle do not want to sell Isak. And they don’t have to either after solving their PSR problems. The Reds, if they want him, will have to table an astronomical offer and even then, that might not be enough.
The Magpies have just won their first domestic trophy in 70 years and qualified for the Champions League. In Isak, they possess one of the best strikers in world football. It makes little sense to lose one of their best players.
Newcastle United set to open contract talks with Alexander Isak
And with three years remaining on his contract, there is no immediate need to sell. Yes, next summer could be a different conversation but United hope to eradicate that by agreeing an extension. As revealed by Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales earlier this year, contract talks with Isak and his representatives are expected to take place this summer.
“We're in a position now where because of the fact we were able to move a couple of players in January that weren't really impacting on minutes on the pitch,” Eales said in March.
"We've got that wish and desire to keep our key players, they're all under long-term contracts. So from that perspective we have no intention at all of those players being moved on, and we're not under the gun or anything like that. We've got an ownership that is ambitious, wants the best for the club. From that perspective, it'd be crazy for us to consider it.
"The reality is that all of our players are under long-term deals. They’re committed to the club. So, from that perspective, we’re not looking to move any player on.
"We’re going to be clear – he [Isak] has multi years left so all of these things, we will have the discussions in terms of a new deal just like we did with, whether it’s Joelinton, Bruno or Anthony Gordon. That’s something that we will approach in the summer.”
Eddie Howe delivers clear Alexander Isak message
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has also delivered a clear message.
Howe said recently: “He's not for sale from my perspective. I want to build a squad, I want the strongest squad possible for next season. There's a lot to look forward to here, hopefully.

“The end of the season is going to be crucial for us. I feel we have a strong squad and I think if we can add some players for the first time in a few windows, that will make a massive, massive difference for us. So that's what I'm focusing on, not the other way around.
“We want to keep our best players. I think I’ve made that very clear. That’s not just the wish from me, that’s the wish from everyone at the club. I don’t have a crystal ball. I can’t sit here and say what’s going to happen.
“I can only say what my determination is and it is to build a team, the best team possible and to do that you can’t consistently lose your best players.”
Alexander Isak comments on his Newcastle United future
And what about the player himself? "There’s not much to say, really," the former Borussia Dortmund striker told Fotbollskanalen, via Sky Sports News. "I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times. I’ve described how much I love the city and the club, and how much I like it there.
"As usual. I don’t think about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, I want to finish strong and get a Champions League. game That’s all I am focused on.”
