Leeds United tipped to sign Champions League winner – deal could be seen as risk

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke will have a huge say in recruitment this summer. The club has the resources to build a team to compete in the Premier League.

Unfortunately for the fans, this may mean that some of their favourite players from last season may be replaced. The arrival of Lukas Nmecha last week has risen doubts about Joel Piroe being the first choice center forward next season.

Leeds have plans to reinforce the midfield, with the club considering moves for Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra and Reims’ Valentin Antangana.

Commentator Ian Darke however, has a surprising option he feels the club can consider – Besiktas star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain:

“I think at this stage of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career, he is a lovely guy, who has had to come through quite a bit in terms of injuries.

“I think it represents a pretty wild punt, I would love to think from his point of view that he could make a glorious comeback to the Premier League.” Darke said speaking to MOT Leeds News.

He then added that the transfer could be a bargain if the midfielder can guarantee his fitness.

“But if you are asking me if I think it would happen, no, I think it probably won’t and I wonder whether at this late stage in his career his body would stand up to a return to the Premier League.

“It may be one of those, from Leeds’ perspective, if they can get a deal like that done without it breaking the bank, they may just feel like it is a punt worth taking.

“I’d hope from Oxlade-Chamberlain’s point of view that there was a lovely, glorious last chapter, but you need a vivid imagination to see it happening.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a waste of resources

The former Liverpool man is too old and injury prone to be considered an option for the Premier League. Leeds’ current options outclass him in every metric this past season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has even struggled for game time in Turkey this past season. A transfer should be a no-go for Leeds United.
