'On the radar': Sean Dyche admits he wanted to bring 'real player' to Everton, he's now set for …

Everton are in serious need of a new striker this summer, with their options left extremely limited.

David Moyes has been left with a real headache this summer as a number of players are set to depart Merseyside at the end of their contracts.

This summer promises to be a big one for Everton as the Friedkins are finally going to be able to splash some cash.

Everton are prioritising the signing of a striker given the issues they have experienced over recent years in that position.

That has not been helped by injury issues, which led to Beto being promoted to the starting striker under Moyes.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to leave Everton over the coming days, and Sean Dyche has just admitted he nearly brought in a striker who is now set to move this summer for £90m.

Sean Dyche tried to sign Viktor Gyokeres for Everton

Everton are keen to sign Thierno Barry from Villarreal over the coming months to spearhead their frontline.

However, it now seems the Toffees could have landed themselves one of the hottest properties during Dyche’s time at the club.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, the former Everton manager has admitted he had the Sweden international on his radar.

“The boy Gyokeres, I’ve got to be honest, I think he’s a real player. I saw him in the Championship and a couple of pals like Al Chamberlain – who scouts players – said: ‘I’m telling you, he’s a player’,” he said.

“We had him on the radar at Everton, but the numbers kept growing and then we played him in pre-season and I thought: strong, honest and there’s more to his game than just scoring goals.”

Everton are being backed by the Friedkins, but they will not be in the market to compete for the Sporting CP striker this summer.

This would have been some signing for Everton given the goals he has gone on to score since Dyche watched him play.

Even if Everton were to have sold him by now, he could certainly have provided a real PSR boost given his price tag.

Arsenal and Manchester United eyeing Gyokeres

Everton lost out on Liam Delap to Chelsea earlier this summer, with the striker widely appreciated across the Premier League.

The same can be said about Gyokeres this summer, but there will be a lot fewer clubs who are capable of actually competing for his services.

It has been claimed by Fabrizio Romano that Gyokeres has a release clause worth £85m this summer.

The likes of Manchester United and Arsenal are competing for his signature as Everton look on at what could have been.

Evertonians will now be hoping someone like Barry can prove to be the next Gyokeres, if he is to join from Villarreal.
