NORMAN — Former Oklahoma men's basketball forward Jalon Moore tore an Achilles tendon during a pre-draft workout in San Antonio this week, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported Saturday.
Moore was hopeful of sneaking into the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft, which begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, however, the injury likely puts a damper on that goal.
“Four days before the draft, many prospects are hobbling to the finish line after crisscrossing the country to participate in grueling, competitive workouts,” Givony wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “This was Moore’s 13th (workout), with three remaining. Fair to question the physical toll involved, relative to the value (the workouts) provide."
Moore’s agent, Mike Silverman of Equity Sports, said in a statement to ESPN: “We’re truly heartbroken for Jalon. It’s time to revamp the NBA pre-draft process. Flying around the country to perform intense, competitive workouts exposes players to risk of major injuries. No other pro sports league puts their draft prospects in this position.”

ESPN did report that Moore underwent surgery the day after his injury and he is expected to make a full recovery.
A 6-foot-7, 215-pounder from Birmingham, Alabama, Moore averaged 13.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in his two seasons at OU, after beginning his college career at Georgia Tech.
Moore was the heart and soul of the 2024-25 Sooners team that finally broke through and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in coach Porter Moser’s four-year tenure.
ESPN had ranked Moore as its No. 63 prospect for the 2025 draft prior to his injury.
