Florian Wirtz has acknowledged being "really ambitious" and wanting to "win everything every year" after signing for Liverpool
If Liverpool needed any reminder of why they are paying an initial £100million to sign Florian Wirtz, Bayer Leverkusen are providing plenty of reasons as they show the player their appreciation. The Bundesliga club continue to thank Wirtz across their social media channels with the hashtag 'ThanksFlo'.
They have done so several times since confirming the player's departure on Friday evening. These posts feature plenty of highlights from his five-and-a-half years at the club.
One post notably includes a clip of him dribbling past Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield when Leverkusen played the Reds during the league phase of last season's Champions League. Many of his 57 career goals for the Bundesliga club also comprise much of the montages they now share.
Another post shows the hat-trick Wirtz scored against Werder Bremen in April last year. Winning that match confirmed them as champions of Germany for the first time.
The caption reads: "A hat-trick to seal the league title; it's what he does." That was his first hat-trick in first-team football and remains the only one of Wirtz's professional career.
Lifting the trophy afterwards was also his first silverware at club level. A second soon followed when they beat Kaiserslautern to win the German Cup, but not before they lost the Europa League final to Atalanta.
After that chance at winning a treble of trophies alluded Leverkusen in what proved to be his penultimate season, Wirtz has acknowledged wanting to win it all after joining Liverpool. The club asked their newest addition about his targets shortly after signing.
Following his arrival, Wirtz told Liverpoolfc.com: "I would like to win everything every year! ... we want to be successful.
"Last season, [Liverpool] won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious."
