Aston Villa could move to sign “perfect” £60m star to replace Rashford, Emery is a big fan -…

Aston Villa are “plotting a move” for Mason Mount should Manchester United allow him to leave this summer, according to former Premier League scout Mick Brown via Football Insider.

The 2024/25 season saw Villa qualify for European football for the third consecutive season. Though the club were disappointed to miss out on Champions League qualification on the campaign’s final day, the fact they are in a position to be upset by such a thing is a testament to the stellar work done by Unai Emery since his arrival at Villa Park.

Villa have already been linked with a number of potential incomings as they prepare for the new campaign, which will include Europa League football. As experienced first-hand by the Villans in the past two seasons, a calendar stacked with European fixtures only adds to the importance of having depth within their squad.

Now, it is being reported that Villa are keen on moving for a midfielder, should he be allowed to move.

Mason Mount in action for Manchester United

Mick Brown has reported, via Football Insider, that Unai Emery “is an admirer” of Mason Mount and if Manchester United allow the Englishman to leave this summer, then Villa could be the team he goes to. Since joining the Red Devils in a deal worth up to £60 million in 2023 from Chelsea, Mount has struggled for fitness and as such, struggled for consistency.

Towards the end of the 2024/25 season, Mount started to play an increasing amount of minutes for Man United, suggesting that the former England international may have put the worst of his injury troubles behind him. It remains unclear, however, whether Ruben Amorim, who called Mount "perfect," envisages the midfielder as part of his team going forward.

The arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves could mean Mount is allowed to depart. At Villa, the former Chelsea midfielder would presumably find minutes on a consistent basis, given that Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford have both departed after their loan spells.

As shown by Rashford’s time with the club, Villa Park could be the place where Mount finally rediscovers his form should the Villans secure his signature.
