“I’m told…” - Insider says West Ham set to make formal move to sign ‘outrageous’ forward

West Ham United are weighing up making a bid for Rangers forward Hamza Igamane this summer, according to former scout Mick Brown via Football Insider.

West Ham spent heavily last summer to back new manager Julen Lopetegui, with the likes of Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Niclas Fullkrug all arriving for sizable fees. Despite this, the Spaniard could never find consistency with his team and was sacked in January.

His replacement, former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, has had a relatively indifferent tenure at the London Stadium thus far, but the summer offers Potter his first full window and a pre-season in the hopes of better adapting his squad to his tactical ideas. The Hammers could sell some of their current players to increase Potter’s transfer budget.

It would appear that Potter is keen on reinforcing his attacking options, according to recent reports, with this particular forward.

Mick Brown has stated, as per Football Insider, that Rangers forward Hamza Igamane is of interest to West Ham. The former scout said:

“West Ham are about to make a formal move for Igamane. They’ve had scouts up there watching him and he’s one of the names on their radar. But I’m told they’re not convinced he’s ready to make the step up to the Premier League. He’s looked impressive for Rangers at times, but he’s playing in a side which finished 17 points short of Celtic, so it’s a difficult one to judge.

“They’ll be looking at the scouts’ reports and comparing him to other options. Then, it could depend on the price, whether the other options are available, whether they saw things they don’t like when they were watching him, all of this. We know Potter wants to sign a new forward, but whether he fits the bill is uncertain. The decision has to be made based on everything they know about him.”

The attacker joined Rangers from AS FAR in his native Morocco last summer and enjoyed a strong debut season for the Premiership side, one that saw him score a last-minute winner in an Old Firm match against arch-rivals Celtic.

As per Brown, though, West Ham reportedly have doubts over whether Igamane would adjust straight away to the Premier League. Given that Danny Ings has been released and both Michail Antonio and Fullkrug missed large chunks of last season through injury, it is imperative that the Hammers sign a Premier League-ready striker.

In Igamane, however, the Hammers would be adding a player to their team with clear potential, flair and dynamism. At just 22 years old, Igamane, who has been called an "outrageous" player, has loads of room to grow as a player and could do so with West Ham if he is nurtured correctly, should he sign for the Hammers.
