Marcus Rashford drops Man Utd exit hint by revealing one footballer he hopes to play with

Amid uncertainty over his future, Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United this summer – and the 27-year-old’s recent comments, when he specified which player he would love to play alongside, have raised the eyebrows of fans.

Can the boyhood Red and Ruben Amorim, one of the best young managers in world football, brush their differences under the carpet? Or will he move onto pastures new after a so-so loan spell with Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign?

After four goals and six assists in 17 outings, Unai Emery’s side decided against making his move to Villa Park permanently. Rashford is now back at square one and where he’ll be earning his corn next season, whether it's on loan or not, remains to be seen.

Rashford Names Player He’d Love to Play Alongside

'Everybody in the world wants to play with the best, you know'

So, where next for Rashford? He finds himself in a tricky situation – but given how talented he is, there may be no shortage of potential suitors, but he’s perhaps pointed towards his transfer preference after revealing who he’d love to play alongside.

Asked whether he’d like to be a teammate of Lamine Yamal’s, Rashford – who is among Manchester United’s top 10 assist-makers – claimed that every player wants to play alongside the best, which he believes the Spaniard is.

“Yeah, for sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best, you know. So, hopefully, we will see.”

“What Lamine is doing at his age isn’t normal,” Wythenshawe-born Rashford continued before waxing lyrical about the youngster. “It’s difficult to put it into words because he’s not supposed to be doing such things at 16-17. He’s got to keep improving."

"Spain is nice, not too far from home. If I’m training here for a long period, it’s good because then my family can come see me for a couple of days – it’s only a three hour flight. It’s nice here and the weather is also good," he reportedly concluded.

Yamal opted to play for Spain but could've represented two other countries

In May 2025, a report claimed that Barcelona – who won a domestic treble last term – had Rashford in their sights after Yamal's ringing endorsement. A loan (with an option to buy) had been previously discussed and the Barcelona superstar spoke glowingly of the Englishman.

'It’s actually sad that Barcelona aren’t even looking at him'

In the aftermath of the clip doing the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), fans believe that he is ‘begging’ for a move to Barcelona – and that’s despite the Spanish side recently agreeing personal terms with Athletic Bilbao stalwart Nico Williams.

“It’s actually sad that Barcelona aren’t even looking at him. He just isn’t wanted by them given the Nico signing.”

“Begging on his knees for Barca,” one fan said as another chimed in: “Rashford is doing what we all thought Antony and [Jadon] Sancho would do. Disgraceful.”

“Next level embarrassment as they’d say take the hint, you are wanted,” as another believes that he is digging for a move to Hansi Flick’s side amid uncertainty over his future: “He’s on his knees.”
