Former Newcastle United midfielder Geremi has been banned from football by the Cameroon FA for five years.
This follows a dispute with president Samuel Eto'o, which has led to the former Newcastle captain being suspended from all football-related activities for the duration of the ban.
The incident occurred during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, when Geremi was reportedly involved in a dispute with a member of Eto'o's staff.
According to Foot Boom, Geremi attempted to enter the Cameroon dressing room following their victory over Gambia, but was "forcibly removed" by officials, sparking a "tense" confrontation.
A statement from the FeCafoot ethics committee read: "We declare Geremi Sorel Njitap, the president of Synafoc, guilty of breaking the behaviour rules of our code of ethics.
"We sentence him to a ban from all forms of football activity for five years, and to a fine of ten million West African francs [£13,000]. He has ten days to submit a written appeal."
Geremi is expected to appeal the decision, with reports suggesting he may take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a bid to reduce or overturn his ban and fine.
Meanwhile, his assistant, Daniel Blaise Ngos received a two-year ban and was issued a £6,500 fine for the role he played.
The 46-year-old spent two seasons at St James' Park between 2007 and 2009 - making a total of 54 appearances.
Shortly after arriving at the club, he was handed the captaincy by then-manager Sam Allardyce, but it didn’t last long.
Upon his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, Kevin Keegan, who had succeeded Allardyce - appointed Michael Owen as captain.
Geremi stayed at Newcastle for the first half of the Championship title-winning campaign before making a move to Turkish side MKE Ankaragucu.
