Rumour Mongering: Napoli Name Darwin Núñez Their Top Target

Cogs they are a-turning this summer, and switches in and out of Anfield are happening very quickly. It’s barely the end of June, but already Liverpool fans are starting to see the shape that Arne Slot’s team will take next season.

Unfortunately for some, that includes the square pegs in the round holes, and center forward Darwin Núñez is one of them. The 25-year-old Uruguayan star has fallen down the pecking order for the Premier League champions, and it seems almost guaranteed that he will leave this summer, as he’s looking for more playing time and the club is keen to get him off their books.

Núñez is said to be interested in heading to Italy to join the Serie A club Napoli. Now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the interest is shared by the club, who have made Núñez their main target this summer.

Darwin Nunez remains Napoli’s priority and dream target as centre striker. The club won’t advance/close on different options until they’ve a chance to get Nunez.

On X, Romano said, “Darwin Nunez remains Napoli’s priority and dream target as centre striker. The club won’t advance/close on different options until they’ve a chance to get Nunez. Talks will continue next week in order to understand how/if transfer fee and salary can be feasible.”

Liverpool are reportedly looking to recoup around £42.7m for the player who they shelled out £85million + add-ons to acquire from Benfica in 2022. Negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs to reach an agreement in valuation. Both parties will be eager to get this done quickly so that they can each continue planning out the rest of their squad.
