Fabrizio Romano has revealed that one of Manchester United’s players has been subject to multiple approaches so far this summer, having barely played under Rúben Amorim.
Manchester United are placing a strong focus on trimming the squad this summer as Rúben Amorim begins his rebuild at Old Trafford.
A £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolves has already been finalised, and negotiations with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo are ongoing after an initial bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was rejected.
The club are still aiming to sign a striker and a midfielder, and a new goalkeeper could also be on the agenda. Several players are set to depart once their contracts expire at the end of June, with more exits anticipated as part of Amorim’s restructuring plans.
Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho are all expected to leave, while there remains uncertainty over the future of Rasmus Højlund.
Antony subject to Italian interest this summer
Antony’s form since heading to Real Betis on loan in January has taken the footballing world by surprise. After playing just 257 minutes across nine appearances under Amorim, he was deemed surplus to requirements and sent on loan.
The Brazilian went on to score nine goals and provide five assists across 26 appearances for Betis, helping them to a 6th-placed finish in La Liga and the Europa Conference League final, where they fell to a 4-1 loss against Chelsea.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has explained that the player’s good form has seen him attract interest from Italian clubs, but that the winger’s priority remains to re-sign with Real Betis on a permanent deal.
“There have been some approaches for Antony also from Italian clubs in the recent days and weeks, but my understanding is that Antony is still giving priority to Betis,” Romano stated on his YouTube channel.
“He would be happy to return to Betis. Let’s see if Betis and United can reach an agreement. But for sure, the situation with Antony is one more to watch for Manchester United to generate money for this transfer window.”
United know how much they must earn from Antony’s move
The most interesting part of Antony’s resurgence since the turn of the year is the effect it has on his value.
Prior to his Betis move, Antony was valued as low as £16 million, but with his form in Spain piquing the interest of some of Europe’s top teams, this has since skyrocketed.
A major consideration United will be making across the market is how any potential bids can help aid their Profit and Sustainability regulation position.

The Manchester Evening News reports that United must sell Antony for at least £32.58 million to avoid his transfer being recorded as a loss on their books.
Antony is reportedly willing to accept a wage cut of up to 30% to secure a return to Betis this summer. He currently earns £150,000 a week at United.
If Antony were to slash his wages by enough, this might allow Betis to free up enough funding to secure the winger for a fee that United would accept, which would break their current transfer record, which has stood for over two decades after they signed Denilson for €30 million in 1998.
