West Ham may have Andre Onana to blame if £25m deal doesn't happen, Man United man in transfer…

Andre Onana has handed out his fair share of gifts since arriving in the Premier League with Manchester United, with West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen the beneficiary back in 2023/24.

While certainly not his most egregious error in a Red Devils shirt, Onana certainly did not cover himself in glory as Jarrod Bowen gave David Moyes’ side the lead during an eventual 2-0 London Stadium victory.

Manchester United’s former Inter Milan and Ajax glovesman blocked Bowen’s route to goal initially, only to rebound the ball straight back into his path. Just one of many avoidable goals conceded on his watch. And just one of many reasons why Ruben Amorim’s side continue to be linked with various potential replacements.

Over at West Ham United, meanwhile, a new goalkeeper is also on the agenda.

While Alphonse Areola saw a return to La Liga with Espanyol ruled out this week, the Frenchman’s place between the sticks at the London Stadium feels as brittle as Onana’s at Old Trafford, if not more so.

Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic is among West Ham United’s goalkeeper targets

Hammers News understands that Graham Potter is a fan of Southampton stopper Aaron Ramsdale. The England international is reportedly available for £25 million due to a relegation clause in his St Mary’s contract.

Freiburg ace Noah Atubolu would relish the chance to prove himself in English football. Hammers News have also been informed that Mads Hermansen of Leicester City is an option too. Hermansen’s former Brondby mentor Casper Ankergren is expected to be announced as West Ham’s new goalkeeping coach in the near future.

Another name doing the rounds, meanwhile, is that of Djordje Petrovic.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca omitted Petrovic from Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad recently, while also confirming that he sits third-place at best in the Stamford Bridge pecking order.

The £25 million-rated Serbian was outstanding during a loan spell at Strasbourg last season. Liam Rosenior, the Alsace outfit’s head coach, even described him as a ‘world-class’ operator in the midst of a successful European charge.

Unsurprisingly, then, West Ham are not alone in pursuing Petrovic this summer.

Andre Onana is ready to snub Monaco for Manchester United stay

The Guardian say that Monaco are also looking at a man who kept a clean sheet during April’s Ligue 1 stalemate with Strasbourg.

And with the report adding that the aforementioned Onana is likely to snub the Principality outfit in favour of fighting for his place at Manchester United, West Ham may have the hapless Cameroonian to blame if Petrovic is snapped up before funds are finally made available to Graham Potter and Kyle Macaulay.

While a club source told Hammers News this week that ‘anything is possible’ regarding potential incomings, a consistent message out of the London Stadium has been that West Ham do not plan on spending big until they free up funds first via a few key sales.

So unless something changes in the coming days, the chances are that July will arrive with Alphonse Areola and Wes Foderingham the only senior goalkeepers at Potter’s disposal.

The Hammers can only hope that, when the club are ready to spend, Petrovic will still be available.
