Report: Arsenal want to sign £200,000-a-week midfield 'phenom' to replace Partey

Arsenal are eyeing a move to sign Real Madrid sensation Eduardo Camavinga to replace outgoing star Thomas Partey, according to Fichajes.net.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their midfield this summer after Mikel Arteta led the club to a third consecutive runners-up finish in the Premier League, with several first-team stars now expected to leave the Emirates Stadium during the off-season.

Italy international Jorginho has already left for Flamengo with his contract expiring and the expectation now is that Ghanaian Partey won't renew despite talks ongoing, which has led the north London side to begin looking at alternatives.

The Gunners are already on the verge of adding Martin Zubimendi to Mikel Arteta's squad this summer, with the player having already traveled to London to finalise a deal.

But in addition to the Spaniard, Arsenal are keen to sign Real Madrid sensation Camavinga to step into Partey's role after Arteta identified him as the perfect replacement due to his energy, passing ability and quality.

The France international, who has been described as a midfield 'phenom', currently earns in excess of £200,000-a-week at the Bernabeu but has fallen down the pecking order in recent times due to injury issues, and has often been shifted out to left-back under Carlo Ancelotti.

New manager Xabi Alonso is said to be a big fan of the 22-year-old and the expectation is that he may become more of a key player this season with Luka Modric leaving the club at the end of his contract.

The report suggests Arsenal could table a bid worth around £50m to convince the La Liga outfit, but currently they have no intention of entering negotiations to sell Camavinga as they want to keep him as a member of their squad as they look to wrestle back the Spanish title from rivals Barcelona.

With Partey now set to leave, a new midfielder is expected to come in alongside Zubimendi but as things stand it doesn't look like that will be Camavinga unless things change between now and the August deadline.
