Liverpool may have smashed the British transfer record in the last 24 hours, with Florian Wirtz arriving at Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen, but boss Arne Slot would ensure he has the most feared side in Europe by raiding Premier League rivals Newcastle United for the signings of Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
The Reds have not been afraid to splash the cash as they aim to build on being crowned Premier League champions, with Milos Kerkez on his way to Merseyside from domestic counterparts Bournemouth after a £40million agreement was reached having also landed Jeremie Frimpong earlier in the summer.
Wirtz has followed in the latter's footsteps by heading to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen, thanks to a deal being wrapped up after negotiating a fee worth up to £116.5million, but the arrivals of Gordon and Isak would result in the Merseyside giants being on course for a trophy-laden campaign.
Slot Should Prioritise Making Gordon Swoop
England international would be creative spark on left flank
Anthony Gordon
GMS sources recently revealed that Isak has remained Liverpool's top striker target and they are prepared to lodge a record-breaking bid if they get assurances that Newcastle would be prepared to sanction his departure, but Slot should attempt to negotiate a double deal which would involve Gordon also arriving at Anfield.
The Reds are reportedly weighing up a £100million move for the 24-year-old England international, highlighting that they are willing to continue spending big despite Wirtz's arrival, and there is no doubt that he would provide additional creativity on the opposite flank to fan favourite Mohamed Salah.
Gordon is a boyhood Liverpool supporter, leading to him wanting to becoming their next marquee acquisition, and Slot must seal an incredible deal after he played a pivotal role in Newcastle securing Champions League qualification and Carabao Cup glory - despite missing the final through suspension - during the 2024/25 campaign.
Anthony Gordon's statistics for Newcastle United this season
The left-sided winger has developed an eye-catching partnership with Isak, leading to them laying on 10 goals for each other during their time as teammates at St James' Park, and you can only imagine what would happen if they became a formidable front four alongside Wirtz and Salah.
Newcastle will be determined to hold onto Gordon, with captain Bruno Guimaraes describing him as 'unbelievable', but Liverpool's spending power has resulted in them having a golden opportunity to get themselves into a position which would allow them to dominate the Premier League and in Europe for the foreseeable future.
Gordon Would be Ideal Replacement for Diaz
Contract situation could be major stumbling block for Reds
Anthony Gordon
There is ongoing uncertainty over whether Luis Diaz is on course to remain in his current surroundings, with GMS sources recently revealing that he is open to quitting and a bid from Al-Nassr could be on the way after they have received central funding approval to enter negotiations, but Gordon would be an ideal replacement.
Among the biggest obstacles that the Reds would have to overcome is the fact that the former Everton man still has five years remaining on a contract which allows him to pocket up to £170,000-per-week when bonuses are triggered, meaning that Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position and under no pressure to lower their demands.
But Gordon has already proven that he has the creativity to provide Isak with goals and, although the latter has a £150million price tag, Liverpool must do all they can to ensure the duo become the next money-spinning additions to an already star-studded squad on the red half of Merseyside.
