Timberwolves’ One Condition for Kevin Durant Emerges Amid Trade Talks

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant has been a focal point across the league over the past several weeks, as multiple teams are exploring trade possibilities for the two-time NBA champion.

Durant is coming off his 18th season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 62 appearances for the Suns.

He initially voiced his dissatisfaction with being in Phoenix before the trade deadline, but despite the team’s efforts to move him, no deal was reached.

The Suns' star has made it clear that his desired destinations are Miami, Houston or San Antonio. And while several other teams are inquiring about him, the interest is not mutual.

Minnesota is among the teams showing interest, but while Phoenix is open to the potential return in a deal for Durant, the Timberwolves have indicated they won't consider a trade unless they receive confirmation that Durant wants to play there.

“It’s really clear that Phoenix likes what Minnesota could potentially offer," reported Sam Amick of The Athletic. "But the Timberwolves have made it clear they’re not in this game unless they’re confident KD wants to be there. So, you could sense PHX trying to convince Kevin to add Minnesota to his list."

This very condition is ultimately what is keeping Minnesota from moving forward with a deal for the veteran forward.

Guard Devin Booker is the only remaining player from the Suns' 2021 Finals run. Since that appearance, the team has failed to advance beyond the second round of the playoffs and was eliminated from postseason contention entirely this past season.
