Jurgen Klopp believes that Florian Wirtz's time at Liverpool is going to be "great" after the German finalized his move to Anfield on Friday.
The Reds agreed a club-record fee with Bayer Leverkusen on June 13, before the player traveled to the UK on June 19 ahead of his medical the following day.
Wirtz's arrival was officially confirmed on June 20, and the following day Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was asked for his take on the Reds' new signing.
"This is going to be absolutely fantastic, I’m sure of it," Klopp said in an interview with RTL/ntv on Saturday. "It’s very hard to strengthen a team when you’re champions. But Liverpool have managed it. They’ve signed an exceptional talent in Florian Wirtz. I’m looking forward to seeing it. It’s going to be great."
Wirtz has signed a five-year deal at Liverpool after the Reds agreed to pay Bayer Leverkusen a guaranteed £100 million ($135 million) for his services, with a possible further £16 million ($22 million) to come in add-ons.
“I feel very happy and very proud," Wirtz told club media as his transfer was confirmed. "Finally, it’s done and I was waiting for a long time – finally it’s done and I am really happy.
“I'm really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League.
“I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best. I spoke also with some players who played there and they told me that it’s perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I’m really looking forward to playing my first game.”
Asked in the same interview what his family made of his decision to move to Anfield, Wirtz said: "I think I was the first one in my family who was really into this club when they spoke to us or told us that they are interested in signing me.
"For sure, I didn't expect that Liverpool will be my next club but my family was supporting me and I didn't have to convince them about the club or something.
"Everything was so good and I wanted to join also a different league in the end. I think my family, they will love also to come here and spend time with me here and in the stadium. So, they will like it as well."
