On Wednesday the Portland Trail Blazers will enter the 2025 NBA Draft along with 29 competitors, all looking to make their team better via the newest influx of professional talent. The book, well-worn by years of examples and suffering, says clearly that each team will be best off taking the best player available to them at their draft spot regardless of playing position or need. The Blazers will no doubt follow this mantra.
Sometimes, though, teams get lucky. The best player available also happens to fill a distinct need on the roster.
