Newcastle star confirms he's talking to Eddie Howe amid transfer speculation

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe wants to keep his best players this summer and Tino Livramento is definitely one of them.

Manchester City think they can sign Livramento this summer but Newcastle United remain firm in their stance over the defender. He is not for sale.

The 22-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best full-backs in the Premier League and has been starring for the England U21s this summer.

Newcastle paid £32million for Livramento to sign him from Southampton in the summer of 2023, and they are in a strong position to keep him.

Indeed, Newcastle don’t need to sell any of their best players this summer. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, Livramento is happy to stay at Newcastle.

Speaking while away on international duty, the defender shed more light on the matter.

Livramento has opened up on the constant messages he’s been getting from Howe.

The Newcastle United manager has played a key role in his development, turning him from a promising youngster coming off the back of a big injury to a senior England international.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel rates Livramento highly, but wanted him to play for the England U21s this summer as Lee Carsley’s side look to defend the European Championship title the Young Lions won with Anthony Gordon in 2023.

Speaking about Howe to The Sun, Livramento said: “The manager, I’m in constant contact with him.

“He has just said to keep focusing on what you’re doing now and you’re doing so well.

“So having that relationship with someone that is obviously such a big figure in what I’ve done so far, I think is an amazing thing for me.

“I’m very much focused on what I’m doing here now. I don’t know anything about that [speculation].

“Being away with the U21s is my main priority. I like to stay in the moment and just focus on what I can do to help the team now.”

Is Tino Livramento a right-back or left-back?

Such is the brilliance of the player, Livramento is able to operate as a full-back on either defensive flank.

Generally, Livramento is regarded as a right-back. However, he’s also been brilliant on the opposite side of the defence, playing a key role in some huge games for Newcastle.

Livramento famously man-marked Mohamed Salah in the Carabao Cup final, stopping the Liverpool star from having a shot or producing a key pass for the first time in 392 games.

Howe has talked up Livramento’s ability to play as a left-back when called upon, saying: “I think the beauty of Tino is that he can do both.

“I think he’s been absolutely outstanding at left-back, I have to say. I think he’s been brilliant. For some players, playing on the wrong side can really open up the pitch. His left foot is actually pretty good, he’s produced some brilliant crosses off that.”

When Lewis Hall returns from injury, however, it seems likely Livramento will return to playing as a right-back.
