Powell, who has been a staple in Dallas since the 2014-15 season after being acquired from the Boston Celtics, remains a valuable veteran presence on the roster despite limited playing time.

At 33 years old, Powell averaged just 10 minutes per game during the 2024-25 season but played an important role during stretches when the Mavericks battled through injury issues.

“The Mavericks’ Dwight Powell is activating his $4 million player option for next season,” Stein shared on X (formerly Twitter), noting Powell had until Tuesday deadline to make his decision.

He has appeared in 705 games with 245 starts, putting up career averages of 6.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game.
